Policies and FAQs

Payments: Payment is due in full at the time of registration. No child will be admitted to the court if payment has not been received. Please NO drop-ins. AVAC members’ accounts will be charged if no other payment method is indicated.
Fees: Each participant will be charged an annual (calendar year), non-refundable Registration Fee of $25 with a family maximum of $65. This includes one T-shirt per student, up to two per family. Additional T-shirts are available for purchase.
Schedule Changes and Cancellations: A $10 processing fee will be charged on all schedule changes and cancellations.
Refunds: A refund will be issued if notice of cancellation is received more than 21 days prior to the start of the session. For cancellations less than 21 days prior to the start of the session, 50% of the class fees will be credited towards future lessons. Credits must be redeemed within 6 months of the issue date.
Class Cancellations and Size Policy: AVAC reserves the right to cancel any class with fewer than four students enrolled one week prior to the scheduled start of the session. In the unlikely event that fewer than three students attend a class, we reserve the right to reduce the class time accordingly. All classes are held unless we contact you.
Make-Ups: Thank you for allowing us to offer the highest quality possible in teaching your children. In order to maintain the integrity of our classes both as to content and size we do not offer make-ups. We have found that adding children to classes for make-ups disrupts the rhythm of the class. Please do your best to attend. No refunds or credits for missed classes. If a student misses two or more consecutive lessons due to illness, a credit may be issued to your tennis account upon medical verification. Classes canceled due to rain outs will receive a credit toward further lessons.

Q.   What age is best for a child to start taking tennis lessons?
We've found that children between the ages of 4 and 6 to be most likely to listen and absorb the basics of tennis: hand/eye coordination, following directions, etc.
Q.   Do I need any special equipment?
For Pee Wees, there are special aluminum junior racquets in different lengths. Please bring

  • Comfortable sports clothes

  • Tennis shoes, no black soles!

  • A Bottle of water
Q.   Should my child take private lessons first?
Group lessons are preferable to private lessons for young children, and first-timers. Once the basics have been learned – and your child expresses a desire to continue playing –  private lessons are an excellent way to perfect techniques and improve targeted aspects such as serve, volley, lob, etc.

Q.   Can we use AVAC courts to practice?
We encourage practice between lessons for continued success!  for the game. However, only AVAC Tennis Members can reserve the backboard, and ball machine. We offer competitive pricing for AVAC Memberships which would allow your entire family to enjoy the club. If this is not possible, we encourage finding a backboard in the neighborhood as well as public courts, where you can feed balls to your child.
