“As a young child, I loved to dance. I studied tap, jazz, and ballet for several years. Self expression through movement was very exciting for me. Around twelve years old, sports were added to the mix. I played competitive basketball and volleyball through junior high and high school. Eventually, the training for sports got very intense and I had to say goodbye to dance for awhile.

In my twenties I got licensed in cosmetology and became a hair dresser. I focused on work and did not have time for exercise. My body began to ache. Long hours at the salon affected my posture and my bones would throb at the end of the day. I decided I needed to take action and take care of myself. This is when I found Pilates.

I began working out on Pilates equipment in my later twenties. I was immediately hooked. It was challenging, but working on the equipment made it feel like I was a kid on the playground. Each class was different. I could feel muscles that I never even knew I had before. As I got stronger, the pain from working at the salon began to decrease. I became aware of the bad habits I had formed that were hurting my body. I realized that this was a practice I needed to keep for the rest of my life.

In 2007, I decided to immerse myself in the Pilates world and began my teacher training. It was life changing. I learned that pilates is so much more than just exercise. It is a way to deepen the connection between the mind and body. It can improve your health and wellness. Since then, I have split my time between the salon and the studio.

I began teaching for a corporate gym in 2009. Employees would take my class on their lunch break. Seeing people get stronger and reduce their stress levels was incredibly rewarding. In 2012 I added Zumba to my repertoire. It felt wonderful to dance again.

Sharing my love for movement with others has been such a joy. If you are looking for a fun way to move, join one of my classes. It’s ok if you have no experience. We all start somewhere and I look forward to being part of the journey.”
