What Exactly is Pilates?

Pilates is a total body workout with core strength being the foundation. The core muscles lie deep within the abdomen and back. Pilates trains the core muscles not only to be strong, but to work alongside the more superficial muscles of the trunk to support the spine and overall body movement.

As core strength is developed, stability through the entire torso increases. This is one of the ways Pilates helps overcome back pain. Good trunk stability not only increases back strength but allows the body to move more freely and efficiently.

Our instructors emphasize a long term approach to Pilates, and are trained to instruct everyone from complete beginners to seasoned Pilates participants. Our trainers work with a client’s skills and fitness level to develop an experience that is the perfect balance of challenge and reward.

Our San Jose Pilates Facility

Our facility is vast and our staff members are as numerous. AVAC currently has seven instructors providing private instruction as well as hosting 22 small group classes per week; 6 of those specifically for seniors.

Group Classes

Fundamental Pilates - Classes are ongoing

Learn the basic principles and become proficient at  Essential Mat and Reformer exercises.
AVAC Member $25 per class | Non-member $35 per class
Class consists of mat and reformer exercises.
Move into “Essential Reformer” class: Complete 8 classes in 4 months
Move into any “Essential Mat” class: Complete 4 classes in 2 months

Beginners, please start here . . . Fundamental Pilates

Fundamental Pilates class is not appropriate for individuals with acute injuries, osteoporosis, a history of fracture(s) or those with significant movement restrictions or limitations. Contact Pilates Director for assistance on getting started.

Private Make-Up Policy

Any session missed during the month can be made up by rescheduling missed session to occur during the current month with any instructor..

Multiple Class Discount
Receive 10% off when you sign up for two or more classes in a month.
(Monthly class participation only)

Minimum Participants
Reformer class: minimum 3 participants.
Mat class: minimum 5 participants.
Less than minimum participants convert’s class to Semi-Private Training fees.

Semi-Private Training
2 or more participants but still smaller group than a class; more individualized training.

Class Scheduling Options
All classes meet once a week for the month. Participate either by Monthly Class Membership or Per Class basis.

Class Make-Up Policy
